UCTC was established at the University of California, Berkeley in 1989 to serve as a policy-oriented transportation research center. Between 1989 and 2017, UCTC was designated as a federal University Transportation Center, with joint funding support from US DOT and Caltrans.
After the federal UTC designation ends in August 2017, UCTC will continue to function as a transportation research center headquartered at UC Berkeley. As has always been the case, grant administration will be provided through the Berkeley campus and multi-campus collaboration will be strongly encouraged.
A combination of campus-based and extramural funding will support transportation research conducted by UCTC-affiliated faculty, other senior academic researchers, and graduate and undergraduate student researchers. In addition, UCTC will continue to organize and sponsor conferences, workshops, short courses, and lectures.
